Memories of Other Family Friends
Gwinn-Dell's Shang Hai-Ku CD

Shang was one of my special heart-dogs. I had him for 16 years. Opinionated and stubborn, Shang was the first Shih Tzu to win Highest Scoring Dog in Trial at the Shih Tzu Club of America National Specialty. His score was 194.5. Don and I set our wedding around this dog show. It was our honeymoon trip. The day of our wedding, Shang became very ill and we almost lost him. Four days later, he won High in Trial at the National.

Gwinn-Dell's Batka CD

A Samoyed breeder told me that Samoyeds "were too stupid to do obedience." Batka was 6 years old and I'd never trained him, except as a pet. Six months later he and I enjoyed the expression on the same breeder's face when we won Highest Scoring Dog in Trial at the Samoyed Club of America National Specialty. His score was 194.5 out of a possible 200. Batka graced my life for 12 wonderful years.

Gwinn-Gwinn-Dell's Lasar Lad

After chasing sheep for 2 hours in the heat, it was learn to shoot, or buy a dog. I chose Lad! He did the work of at least 3 people and was an unbelievable ranch hand. Lad learned everything, in spite of me. Obsessed with herding, he did it all! Like the story book Collies, Lad saved a sheep by pulling it from the creek. He taught the sheep to walk up the ramp to be loaded into the truck. A walk on their backs, followed by a launch at their necks, taught them they'd rather ride than deal with this tough Border Collie. He handled the sheep on his own. I would stand on the hill and tell him to fetch the sheep; he'd disappear among the acres and come back with 40 head, all totally obeying him. Lad was an amazing dog. We had him for 18 years. Our current BC, Laddie, is named after Lad.

Beowolf's Echoz Edwina
"Laika"

Laika was locked in a garage for 2 years after killing neighborhood cats and rabbits and weighed only 42 pounds when I bought her for $50.00 to save her. One could see every bone. She was 68 pounds when in correct weight. An escape artist until she knew she would be with us forever, she suffered from separation anxiety and once escaped through a 4 inch opening. She ended up to be a wonderful dog and got along with all of our animals. She was also totally trustworthy off lead. We still miss her.

Gwinn-Dell's Korvokof Mikhail

Mikhail was my 2nd Borzoi. He was very sweet and Laika's best friend. He never recovered from her death. We lost him at age 8 from cardiomyopathy. Mikhail had a passion for re-arranging things. Once when I couldn't find my African Violet, I discovered Mikhail had carried it into the living room.

Gwinn-Dell's Chablis

Chablis was another heart-dog. I kept her in show coat. Her daughter, Monique was her only puppy in her first litter. Both were wonderful friends.

Rambo
Rambo was our old ram. He was not a Katahdin! We had him for 18 years.
Harley Hogg

Harley was our fist potbellied pig. He is pictured here attending a dog show. We had Harley for 10 years.
Chopper
Chopper was a dear little pig with a wonderful sweet personality. He loved everyone and was gentle and a beloved pet. He slept with his pet and friend Red Rooster and they were devoted to one another. Red Rooster died and Chopper died a few weeks later. Chopper was housebroken and lead trained but preferred to b a farm pig and live outdoors. He was almost 10 when we lost him. We miss having a pig in our lives. I like to think that he and Red Rooter are cuddled up together again at the Bridge.
